  • Group different objects based on their similarities and differences
  • Recognise that a group of objects can be grouped in multiple ways by altering the grouping criteria
  • Count to 10 to work out how many objects there are altogether
  • Recognise that you need to count one at a time and the last number that you count is the total
  • Understand that one object can be represented by another
  • Pictorially represent a number
  • Develop counting skills to continue a number sequence forwards and backwards
  • Use counting skills to find ‘one more’ or 'one less'
  • Understand that one more is the number after and one less is the number before
  • Match one object with another
  • Look at situations where there are too many or not enough
  • Use the language ‘equal to, more, greater than, less than, fewer’ to compare groups of objects
  • Use previous knowledge of number values to compare them
  • Order three groups of objects via different methods
  • Order numbers either from greatest to smallest or smallest to greatest
  • See numbers as positional, using stem sentences to support mathematical understanding
