There have been many supervillains in both stories and film - think of the Child Catcher, Bond villains and Voldemort, to name a few. Writers have always created fantastic baddies that we both love and despise. And now there’s a new supervillain in town: Wendy Wedge! In episode 23 of the Author in Your Classroom podcast, Liz Pichon discusses her new book Shoe Wars; a hilarious story that was inspired by a real falling out between two brothers who made shoes. Liz discusses where her ideas for stories come from and why it is so much fun creating villains and the story world that they live in. In this teaching sequence, children will have the chance to collect ideas that they could use to write stories and create their own supervillains. They will explore the writing techniques that Liz Pichon has used in the extract from the book that she reads in the podcast (included in the pack) and create their own descriptions of when their villain enters a scene. Extracts from the podcast are suggested to introduce each section of the teaching sequence, providing an excellent way to connect the things children are learning with the work of a professional author. The pack includes teacher notes, a PowerPoint, worksheets and beautifully designed elements for a working wall, and has been exclusively created to be used with episode 23 of the Author In Your Classroom podcast – a virtual ‘author visit’ you can share with children whenever you like, absolutely free!
