Encourage pupils in Year 3 to edit sentences using this simple game. They will have the opportunity to orally rehearse sentences and revise key grammar skills taught in Y3.

This grammar game could be played in pairs or small groups to encourage pupil discussion but could also be played by an individual player. To play the game, pupils will first choose a sentence. They will then roll two dice and then change the sentence, creating coordinates and following the instructions on the Sentence Challenge Game Board for the numbers rolled.

The game can be used as part of an English lesson to develop or revisit skills or as an extension for activity to develop pupils’ understanding of grammar to a greater depth. The sentence cards included can be used or teachers may write their own sentences linked to the topic or the writing that pupils are currently working on.
