Looking for a template to support pupils when independently editing their work?
These writing skills checks are used within our Real Writing Units in KS2 and are perfect for pupils to refer to when editing their work, encouraging them to look for the skills and features listed on the checklist in their own writing.
This blank template, available as a PDF and editable Word document, allows you to create your own bespoke writing skills check linked to the vocabulary, grammar and punctuation taught during a writing unit. A checklist could be created with the pupils, writing what they could use before beginning a piece of independent writing, or the checklist could be created by the teacher. Alternatively, pupils could create their own personal checklists using the PDF template. This may be particularly beneficial in year 6 to avoid over scaffolding writing in preparation for writing moderation at the end of Key Stage 2.
These resources could be used alongside our Real Writing Units to create check lists according to the needs of your pupils or they could be used for other model texts so that the same format is used to create consistency in your classroom or across the school.
