Pupils will read a wide range of blurbs on the back cover of books when choosing their own independent reading books. But do they know how to write an effective book blurb themselves?
This resource pack provides a planning sheet for writing a successful book blurb, together with writing techniques that could be used to persuade a reader to choose a particular book. These resources can be used to support teaching and learning during an English unit focusing on persuasive writing, focusing on book blurbs, to share the features needed for this style of writing and to identify the features in model texts.
The poster can be used to teach how these text types are structured and the grammar, vocabulary and punctuation typically used.
