The Conservative Party had a rough time in the 2024 local elections, losing votes up and down the country. When the votes were counted, the Conservatives had lost 474 seats, while their biggest rivals, Labour, gained 186.
Oracy
Even though the results of the local elections don’t look good for the Conservatives, they have to call a general election within the next few months. What would you advise? Is it better to get something that might be painful over and done with quickly? Do you prefer to ‘rip off the plaster’? Or do you think it’s more advisable to take your time when faced with a difficult decision? No matter how bad something looks, is it always worth holding out for the last moment, hoping for a change of fortunes? What do you think?
Writing skills
Write a diary entry for a time when you had to choose whether to do something quickly, even though you knew it would be difficult. Remember to write in the first person and the past tense. Include your own personal feelings as well as a detailed description of what happened.
Or
Write two limericks (humorous five-line poems with a rhyming pattern AABBA): one which describes a rapid decision with a positive outcome and the other describing hasty action that ended in disaster.
Investigate
Research and briefly describe the main duties and responsibilities of a metropolitan mayor in the UK.
