The spelling patterns covered are:
- anti- and auto- prefixes
- il- and im- prefixes
- in- and ir- prefixes
- inter- sub- and super- prefixes
- -ation suffix
- words ending with sounds like ‘shun’
- ‘g’ sound spelt ‘gue’’ and the ‘k’ sound spelt ‘que’

Pupils’ spelling of common words should be correct, including common exception words and other words that they have learnt.
