Year 2-6 Sentence Seeds and Scattered Sentences – KS1/2 Exploring Vocabulary Activities

Encourage pupils to explore how they use vocabulary by playing these two simple sentence games – perfect as 15-minute starters for an English lesson or at any point during the day. Each activity asks pupils to produce a short story, thinking carefully about their word choices.

This primary resource pack includes:

• Activity 1 – Sentence Seeds
  A game where children write a set of sentences, using the last word of one sentence to start the following sentence, and so on. An example sheet is included.
• Sentence Seeds teacher slides
  Examples of starter words for pupils to use, which can be displayed so the whole class has the same challenge.
• Sentence Seeds word cards
  Example word cards which can be given to individual pupils or drawn randomly. Blank cards are included so more words can be added.
• Activity 2 – Scattered Sentences
  A game where pupils come up with a ten-word sentence and must then write a short story using those ten words in fixed places. An example sheet is included.
• Scattered Sentences teacher slides
  Examples of ten-word sentences, which can be displayed so the whole class has the same challenge.
• Scattered Sentences sentence cards
  Ten-word sentence cards, which can be given to individual pupils or drawn randomly. Blank cards are included so more sentences can be added.
