Looking for a year 5 reading assessment?
This comprehension pack has been designed to follow a similar format to the assessments that the pupils will complete at the end of KS2. Using reading booklets formatted in a similar style throughout key stage 2 will help pupils become more familiar with their layout and therefore improve their confidence when approaching reading assessments.
Three texts are included in the reading booklet:
a classic poem by T. Hood
a magazine article about The Beatles
a diary entry of a soldier from 1066
Questions have been mapped against the content domains so that you can identify question types and reading curriculum areas that your pupils may need to revisit.
The comprehension pack includes:
- Reading Booklet: Comprehension B
- Reading Answer booklet
- Content Domains Checklist
- Teachers’ Answers booklet
How to use this resource: Use the resource as a practice test so pupils are familiar with test situations.
Complete the booklet as an end of term summative assessment
Plan group or whole class reading sessions using the resource, teaching them about different question types and how they should be answered.
Use it as three smaller comprehension activities, either in guided reading or as an assessment tool, reading each text and completing the questions linked to it.
