Real Writing Year 4 - Unit 25
Model text: Stay Safe in the Sun, by Jo Franklin
Unit overview
This writing unit for Year 4 is built around an original model text by Jo Franklin; an explanatory text advising children about sun safety. The example text is available as a PDF in three versions (plain, illustrated and annotated); annotated and non-annotated PowerPoint presentations are also included.
In this two-week unit, pupils will explore the prefix ‘pre-’ and will learn how to organise paragraphs around a theme by grouping related information. In their final writing task, pupils will write their own leaflet, explaining how people can stay safe on the beach, in the kitchen or other situations and places. This unit gives pupils the opportunity to write for a real purpose.
